The BC Sands Blower: Delivering Product into Place!

Monday, April 5th, 2010

BC Sands delivers your solutions.  We can deliver in bulk, in Bulka bags, 20kg bags or we can even blow products using the BC Sands Blower.

While any vehicle from the BC Sands extensive fleet can deliver product to site, the blower delivers and distributes product exactly where you need it to go!

Equipped with a 100m-long flexible hose, the blower spreads mulch, soft fall, top dressing, soils, planter box mixes and barks – taking minutes to do what would take hours with mere manpower. In fact, our trained operators can spread around 15 m3 in sixty minutes!

It’s easy to see how the blower can reduce your labour costs and allow you to complete jobs faster, particularly when you need to cover large areas. What’s more the blower is also ideal for hard-to-access areas, like balconies, rooftops, behind retaining walls, sloping or coastal sites. It’s also perfect when it’s important to reduce disruption to the public, for example when you are spreading mulch or soft fall in parks, playgrounds or schoolyards. And it’s less damaging to the immediate environment than churning it up with wheelbarrows and bobcats!

Your problem… our solution.

Get ready for Summer with TigerTurf’s latest product ‘Summer Envy’

Monday, April 5th, 2010

For some, a traditional ‘green’ synthetic grass lawn just doesn’t look right.

With the country’s ‘drought’ having lasted so long we just aren’t used to seeing strikingly ‘green’ grass.  TigerTurf’s alternative is ‘Summer Envy’.

Positioned alongside ‘Envy’ at the top of TigerTurf’s Landscape range, ‘Summer Envy’ differs with a beige/brown polypropylene thatch replacing the green nylon thatch of Envy.  This results in a more natural ‘Australian’ grass look.

The thatch is tall and visible when infilled, provides additional support to the monofilament thereby reducing pile fall.  It is a dense surface, that is soft to touch, not prickly, whatever direction the hands run through it.  Working in combination, the thatched yarn and monofilaments bloom multi directionally.  All these features make the grass more natural looking and less shiny as light is reflected in more directions.

Our Gold Landscape Partner, Stephen Galletly from Grass1 says ‘The market has been crying out for a luxurious, natural looking grass with a truly Australian look and feel.  TigerTurf Summer Envy has delivered this and our clients are loving it.  A very full product that delivers a great feel underfoot together with a very grass like appearance’.

Hill Bark Blower 2

The Hills Rockslinger is an exciting new addition to the industry, providing the awesome ability to accurately supply and install heavy landscape product 15 tonnes in 15 minutes up to 40 metres away. It is a part of The Hills Bark Blower fleet, the company in the forefront of innovative ways to apply product.

The slinger machine works by using a high speed conveyor attached to the truck to move the product from the body, through the conveyor and into the area it’s needed. Once it has been seen in action, a myriad of uses come to mind such as trench filling, filling behind retaining walls, moving product to the back of site, roadbase to grade development, or simply spreading or stockpiling product.

Jon Moon, Managing Director of The Hills Bark Blower explained the potential of the new machinery.

“The rockslinger has been hugely helpful to our business. It contributes to our jobs being done on time and within budget. We’ve been able to expand the amount of products we can spread, so now we can easily do heavier and larger supplies such as road base, less refined mulch, and all types of sand. We also use it to refill our trucks on site so that the Bark Blower jobs can be completed quickly. It’s actually been a cost effective tool for us and our customers.”

The Hills Bark Blower is the largest fleet of bark blower trucks in Australia and has been operating since 1997. All their customer service staff has experience and qualifications in the landscape and horticultural industry. This means that the advice offered is based on valuable knowledge. They can even develop site specific mixes at one of their large landscape yards.

New Compact Native Grasses at Downes

Monday, April 5th, 2010
We have plenty of new varieties of plants coming through now, here are a few of my favourites that are looking awesome at the moment.

Lomandra confertifolia Keira

Lomandra Keira produces a ball shaped mound of needle like leaves, bright green in colour. It is soft to touch and has great visual appeal. Extremely suitable for areas where children play, particularly for border planting. Its spherical shape offers the opportunity for a designer to create graphic patterns in a garden bed.

Lomandra Keira grows to 30cm tall x 40cm wide.

Lomandra confertifolia Tilga

Lomandra Tilga is a very vigorous narrow leafed Lomandra that develops a graceful weeping habit as it matures. Its foliage is very soft to touch making it great for high traffic areas and safe for little eyes

These characteristics make Tilga a dependable selection for large scale plantings either in rows beside roadways or en masse in parks and gardens.

Lomandra Tilga grows to 70cm tall x 40-50cm wide

Lomandra confertifolia rubiginosa Crackerjack

A cracker of a variety!

Lomandra Crackerjack exhibits a strong, but graceful presence in the landscape. Its fine leaves have a fresh maintained appearance year round.

The fine leaves of Crackerjack sway gracefully in the wind, which creates the feeling of a soft wispy element, contrasting perfectly with hard paved surfaces. New seasons growth is blue, maturing to green with age. With flowers positioned deep in the foliage it is well suited to high pedestrian areas and is child friendly, as there is little danger from getting spiked by drying flowers.

Lomandra Crackerjack grows to 45cm tall x 1m wide

Dianella caerulea Stampede

Dianella Stampede is a gorgeous compact form of caerulea growing to 35cm-45cm tall, its extremely drought tolerant making it suitable for a wide range of solutions from garden edges, Balinese gardens to mass planting in roadside gardens.

The foliage is very dense making it a great little border plant. It’s tough as tolerating abuse from pedestrians.

Dianella Stampede has a lovely blue flower spring, we now have good numbers available but get in fast as demand is increasing.

Better Conditions For Plant and Profit Growth From All Stake Supply

Monday, April 5th, 2010

All stake supply logo

October, 2009 –  Better conditions for growth are on offer from All Stake Supply with two new proprietary products used to speed up production, boost volumes, reduce failure rates and lower the cost of planting out large projects.

Locally formulated and manufactured, Terraform™ Plant Establisher and Terraform OceanComplex are proven to offer equal and better results than the leading products at 40% less expense, which is “great for healthy plants and even better for a healthy bottom line,” said Mr. Stephen Holt, managing director of All Stake Supply.

Terraform Plant Establisher is a clinically proven quadruple action formula loaded with the ideal level of hydro-absorbent polyacrylamide granules and incorporating coir fibre to further facilitate water retention. The presence of a wetting agent ensures maximum utilisation of any natural rainfall or irrigation helping super absorbent polymers (SAPs) to reach their most therapeutic level.

Chelated trace elements and minerals are included with a slow release polymerized urea nitrogen source slowly converted from ammonium to nitrate form, which means nitrogen is sustained for safe plant use over many months. Cation capacity is greatly enhanced through the presence of an organic compound utilizing lignite derived humates.  These compounds promote microbial activity especially where soil is in poor condition and help to overcome root interface problems, allowing faster root dispersion into the surrounding soil profile.

“Terraform Plant Establisher can be applied for the benefit of newly planted trees and vines, under turf, and as a blended starter in the media in pot culture. It is ideal for all horticultural and landscaping needs,” said Mr. Holt.

Terraform™ OceanComplex is a concentrated liquid blend of organically derived materials proven to revitalise biodiversity and activity of the microflora and fauna within the soil. Largely due to its very high cation exchange capacity, research in field application has proven a significant yield increase in many crops because of enhanced availability of many of nutrients otherwise “locked” in the soil.

Rich in extracts and organics acids from kelp seaweed and Leonardite deposits, OceanComplex has a carefully proportioned ratio of auxins, cytokinins and gibberellins ideal for stimulating the physiology of plant growth.

Leonardite deposits (highly oxidized lignite) are formed from prehistoric sedimentation of plant residue and subsequent compression over millions of years. Terraform OceanCompleX includes an extraction from these deposits that yields a complex solution of organic humates, making it a powerfully beneficial microbial stimulant.

“Microbial components are the naturally occurring flora and fauna that exist within the soil structure, that help keep it rich and supportive of plant life.  Where this component is lacking, the soil becomes depleted,” explains Mr. Holt. “The application of OceanCompleX can greatly enhance this microbial activity vitality of naturally occurring microbial flora and fauna.”

Terraform OceanComplex can improve crop quality and associated plant/fruit shelf life.  Frost resistance improves and maturation time reduces. It is especially efficacious when applied to stressed plants, during rescue and transplantation.

Lifestone Paving

The poured liquid limestone developed Lifestone Paving, is the cost effective, natural and stylish answer to your landscaping dreams. Suitable for both internal and external use, the paving is made on site from a mixture of crushed WA limestone & cement, poured en masse, then handcrafted and textured as required. The combination of stone and cement makes it extremely strong and durable. Being poured as one piece there are no gaps for unsightly weeds to grow through or burrowing ants to form anthills.

Around the home Lifestone Paving can be used for driveways, patios, courtyards, pool areas and alfresco areas. Unlike many other paving materials, limestone paving does not get hot in summer.
