FlowStone Porous Paving fit for a Queen

January 31, 2012

In preparation for the arrival of the new Governor – Malcolm McCusker and a visit by the Queen for CHOGM, DrainPave were consulted to provide a safe solution for an existing, historic pathway between garden levels.

The existing 80m long, 2m wide path was constructed with laterite (pea gravel) descending from one set of steps to another.

The path also had a 5 degree crossfall which resulted in a very slippery and unstable surface.

DrainPave’s solution was to replace the loose laterite with FlowStone™ porous paving to allow water to permeate and not build upon the path.

The stone colour chosen was Carnarvon River Stone in 6-10mm which is a Western Australian resource.

The path crossfall was reduced to 2 degrees, coupled with a glass dust application to improve slip resistance.

The result was a beautiful natural stone permeable path, which keeps in line with the historic building’s origin, along with the peace of mind that the Queen, WA Premier and dignitaries could precede safely along its course.
